How to Find Regens in FM27: PC, Console and Mobile
Last updated: 26 October 2026
Real-world wonderkids are the same in every save. Regens aren't. Every save produces its own, and finding them before the big clubs do is half the fun of Football Manager. Here's how to hunt them down, whatever you play on. The methods below are based on FM26, and we'll confirm each one in FM27's Launch Preview (from 29 October 2026).
Quick answers
What is a regen in Football Manager? A regen (or newgen) is a player the game generates during your save, mostly through yearly youth intakes. Regens are unique to each save. Older Football Managers created "regens" as copies of retired players, but modern versions generate brand-new players instead.
What's the fastest way to find regens in FM27? In FM26, the quickest way was World > Transfers > Youth Intake. It lists every newly generated player. You shortlist the promising ones and send scouts. We'll confirm the FM27 path in the Launch Preview.
Can I find a Messi regen in FM27? Not a copy. Regens are no longer clones of retired players. You can still search for players with a Messi-style profile (see below).
Does it work on console and mobile? We'll confirm what's available on PC, console and mobile once we've tested FM27. See the platform notes below for how it worked in FM26.
Regen vs newgen vs wonderkid
- Wonderkid: a real young player in the starting database. These are the same for everyone, so see our FM27 wonderkids tracker.
- Regen / newgen: a generated player who's unique to your save. The community still says "regen". That's what we showcase every day in Regen of the Day.
When regens appear
Most regens arrive at youth intakes, and each nation has its own date. See our FM27 youth intake dates guide. We'll note anything that changes in FM27 once we've tested it.
Method 1: The global youth intake list
Based on FM26:
- Open the World screen.
- Go to Transfers, then choose Youth Intake from the dropdown.
- Filter by nation or month.
- Sort by value or reputation, shortlist the standouts, then scout them.
You'll see every regen generated that cycle. Some players feel it's almost too easy, so how much you use it is up to you.
We'll confirm the FM27 path in the Launch Preview.
Method 2: Player search filters
Based on FM26:
- Set the age to 15โ18, or up to 21 for players close to the first team.
- Limit it to a nation or region, then sort by reputation or transfer value.
- Or pick the key attributes for a role you use, set a minimum level and adjust how many must match.
Rating stars and attributes only show once a player has been scouted, so treat search results as a list of players to scout.
We'll confirm the FM27 search filters in the Launch Preview.
Method 3: Recruitment focuses
Based on FM26 and SI's own Dugout advice:
- Any position, ages 15โ21, priority Ongoing.
- Split by region and send scouts who know that region.
- Use a modest minimum potential so you don't filter out late developers.
- Untick results from other focuses so you don't get duplicates.
Your scouts matter most. Look for high Judging Player Potential and Ability, Adaptability, and wide scouting knowledge.
We'll note any FM27 recruitment changes once we've tested them.
Method 4: Youth tournaments and national youth teams
Scouting U17, U19 and U21 national squads and youth competitions finds regens the "realistic" way. It's slower, but it feels fair.
Finding a "Messi" or "Ronaldo" regen
Since regens aren't clones, search for the profile instead. For a Messi type, that means young wingers or attacking midfielders with strong dribbling, technique, first touch, vision, flair, acceleration and agility. Then scout the shortlist.
Platform notes
PC
All four methods above were available in FM26. We'll confirm them for FM27 in the Launch Preview.
Console (PS5 / Xbox)
In FM26, console players reported that recruitment focuses often came back with few results and found scouting by country hard. Many used manual searches instead (age 15โ20, sorted by value). We'll confirm what FM27 Console offers once we've tested it.
Mobile (Netflix)
We'll confirm which methods exist on FM27 Mobile once we've tested it.
Where to look: nations and clubs
Nations with high hidden youth ratings tend to produce more top regens. Clubs with top youth facilities and recruitment do too. We'll publish the best regen nations for FM27 once we've tested them, rather than reuse FM26 rankings.
After you've found one
Sign them, then develop them. Based on FM26 community advice, good training matters most up to about 18, and match minutes matter most after that. Our development and loan guides are coming soon.
